cinque terre - october 20th
So in october, I went to the Cinque Terre. 5 villages by the coast. Go google it if you wanna know more. This basically involved me waking up at 7am. as usual. and then taking a train down. and walking. and walking. and walking summore. stopped to get food at each village. but then walked and walked and walked. and for lazy me, this was quite a feat. We left the first village at 10am and reached the last village at about 6pm. And only stopped to sit for lunch at 2pm. Of course, me being me, i had food at every single village. (pizza of course, what else, oh and gelato - but i never got to sit down cos everyone else wanted to walk on. blah.)
I hope I ordered the photos correctly but here goes. I've only blown up my fave pix. ( in the process of uploading all, only have a few for now)
oh, by the way, i need to mention that (a) that is me in there with my pink belt and black jacket and (b) this photo has not been photoshopped. it's original. promise. cross my heart. haha.
If you can be bothered to see the rest, you can go to a link i will upload soon.
This first village you see just as you hop off the train. And yes, it's where most people tend to look lost. Of course, if you're walking the other way around, this would be the ending point. But no one ends at 10am in the morning. Unless of course they started hiking at 3am at night or something ridiculous like that.
Lover's Walk as they say in English. The whole shaded walkway covered in artwork and well, graffiti, much like the wall of juliet's house in verona. and a tiny little chair with embracing lovers. not sure if you can see it from the picture, but the shady vines you see entwined along the railings aren't actually vines. they're locks. hundreds and hundreds of locks. put there by lovers of course. haha.
2nd little village. Where I managed to grab myself some breakfast, and of course, part of this whole trip was about people trying to take candid shots of me. bleh. and of course, i only put up the photos which are vaguely flattering. haha! :p
the third stop was i think the most touristic place, and the lack of boats is because they don't have a harbor. everything comes in by train. see the quaint little herbs all arranged in a basket outside, and all the umbrellas ready to shade us if we decide to have a meal there.
**vernazza** by this time i was already half starved, and found a gorgeous pizza place where TWO complete pizzas met their end. And the pizzas, as you can see by the poster, were baked in a "forno a legna" which is a wood-baked oven. i don't know why anyone would try and do away with this, cos honestly, i think the pizzas really DO taste better in here. must be all the fumes we inhale from the woodchips adding extra taste. ;) but like i said, i think this place serves the best pizza i had ever eaten to date. their quattro formaggi was scrumptious, and their funghi. mmmm. i could live on pizza for the rest of my life.
it was here too, that it constantly looked like it was going to storm, and yet the sun decided to peek out from behind the clouds now and then, making the lighting SO gorgeous for photo-taking!
and so our full bellies (plus threatening skies) helped us decide that this was the last stop we could endure for walking. we cheated and took a train to the final village.
and this was the fifth village. it was the most gorgeous i think only because of the lighting, and because the sun was nearly setting, so the streetlamps, and the road right next to the sea gave it the most romantic air.
so if you guys do pop down to visit me, chances are you'll probably be dragged down to the hike that leads us through these 5 gorgeous villages by the sea. ;)

for all those wondering..
and even for those who arent. :p the reason why there is a significant lack of photos of myself on the web is because, i don't like being in photos. yes, in an age where everyone is snapping away and facebooking, i would very much prefer to be behind the scenes rather than in the spotlight.
i cannot explain why i don't like being in photos. my housemate once put it quite aptly. he thinks i've got a weird smile. hahahaha. cos i grin and bare all my teeth (hey, i have to show off all those pretty straight rows don't i?). and just the other day, he was puzzled. cos everytime he took a photo, he got a different result "why is it you look so different in photos than you do in real life?"
and yes, i will be the first to admit it. sometimes i look much better in photos than i do in real life, although more often than not, i look worse. haha. of course that's a nice way of saying i look much better in real life than i do in photos, which isn't true.
but anyway. i guess i've just got the kind of beauty that moves. *grins* or the kind of non-beauty that moves. whichever way you prefer to look at it. ;)
don't worry though. many more trips coming your way. hee. and even though i haven't updated the gazillions of photos from my last romp around europe, i hope to do it slowly. bit by bit. i do have 4000 photos to sift through you see. haha.
